SI and Manchester United legal dispute
On August 6 SI announced that their legal dispute with Manchester United has finally been resolved. In a statement, SI wrote:
Manchester United and Sega have agreed a settlement to amicably resolve their trademark dispute relating to Football Manager. Both parties are pleased to resolve this matter to their mutual satisfaction.
From FM22 onwards, the Manchester United football club will be named ‘Manchester UFC’ or ‘Man UFC’. These name changes have been made purely to settle the dispute on a no admissions basis.
SEGA and Sports Interactive maintain that they do not need a license to use the ‘Manchester United’ name but have made the change as a gesture of goodwill so that both parties can move on.
While the official name of Manchester United will change in the game, it will still be possible to use editor files to change the names. These have been in the game for years and updates like the FMI Update will change these names to their original.
XBox Game Pass
For the first time in history Football Manager will be available on Xbox and Xbox Game Pass on the official launch date. Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that allows you to play more than 100 high-quality games for a small monthly fee. More information can be found on the Xbox website.
Other platforms on which FM22 will be available are Steam, EPIC Games, Nintendo Switch, Tablet and Mobile.
