Football Manager 2024 will see the introduction of intermediaries, who can help you to offload unwanted players. Learn more on this new FM24 feature.
Using Agents for Better Transfer Market Insight
To provide better clarity on player valuations and market interest, FM24 introduces the "Ask Agent About Market Interest" option. This new addition allows managers to engage in a conversation with the player's agent, providing three response options:
- Desperate
- Keen
- Curious
These responses convey the manager's level of urgency in selling the player. Depending on the player's willingness to move, the agent reveals the player's current market value and the clubs showing the most interest. However, managers should be cautious, as their actions can have consequences in the game.
After the chat, managers can choose to proceed with a potential transfer or reconsider their options based on the price tag and list of interested clubs. If the player is willing to move but there aren't any clubs interested, the agent will explain why. Also, the player's profile will be updated with the discussed market value and potential price tag. This will remain active for a specific duration and will be in a different colour.
FM24 has also improved and developed the 'Ask agent about availability' feature, which was introduced in FM22. This now includes minimum fee release clauses and expected contract lengths in a player's demands. You as a manager can contest these demands, negotiating terms with a player's agent to agree a deal that suits both parties.
Evolve Your Squad with New Intermediaries
If an agent is unwilling to cooperate or there are not any viable offers, you now have the option to enlist the help of Intermediaries to facilitate player sales. These Intermediaries are recruited by the Director of Football or staff members with that responsibility and can generate interest in a player while assisting in securing a move for a percentage of the final transfer fee. The effectiveness of the intermediary depens on multiple factors, including their reach and ability. Intermediaries will charge a commission for their work and that is capped at a maximum of 10%. There are intermediaries who chargle less than 10%.
When using an intermediary it will be crucial to evaluate their abilities and offers before making a rapid choice. While the commission is based on their reach and ability, well-known but less skilled Intermediaries might charge more than their more capable but less-connected counterparts.
The time between gathering information also varies between intermediaries. Higher ability intermediaries will require less time than others. Also, during busy periods such as the transfer deadline day, the time needed by an intermediary is reduced, while lower ability intermediaries might struggle to find a suitable club in time before the deadline passes. Managers can hire an Intermediary by navigating to the player's profile and clicking the "Hire an Intermediary to sell player" button.
Using an intermediary is not without any risks. Bypassing a player's agent to engage an Intermediary can lead to player discontent and disruption in the dressing room. On the positive side, the intermediary may have better connections, opening up a potential big sale that the player's agent would not have considered possible.
Offer Out Players via TransferRoom
Another new feature in FM24 is the introduction of the TransferRoom as a new partner. This is used to simplify the process of offering players to other clubs. This new option replaces the 'offer to clubs' option, allowing managers to have a better overview of potential buyers and other players who are on the market. While not an instant option, TransferRoom aggregates offers from clubs, and responses may vary depending on the timing of the season and transfer window.
Bringing Your Transfer Tools Together
With the introduction of Intermediaries and enhancements to Agent functionality, FM24 has made adjustments to the Transfer Status screen. Clubs interested in a player are now categorized as having 'Active Interest' or 'Rumoured Interest.' Contextual reasons for their interest are provided, such as whether the player is their first-choice target for a specific position.
Agent Feedback remains a key feature, with options to discuss generating market interest, hire an Intermediary, or use TransferRoom. If these options prove unsuccessful due to the player's unwillingness to leave, managers can try persuading the player to leave instead. The screen also provides tabs for Transfer and Loan Status, allowing instructions to be given to the Director of Football.
