How to set up team training

Lazy Nov 9, 2020 Last modified: 24 Nov 9,820 views

This guide will explain more on team training in Football Manager

The training section of Football Manager has seen quite some changes in recent years. From the possibility to adjust team training from day to day in older versions of the game, to a global training section with a few and simple options in later versions of the game. In this guide we show you the basics of applying a basic form.

In the screenshot you see below you will see the team overview page. On the overview page you have every option available to apply team training at your club. we have highlighted 5 different aspects which you can adjust and will discuss each separate option.

1. Calender

Your team training schedule is shown on the calendar. Every type of training has its own color, so the coloring of the calendar can vary from week to week and will give you a quick insight of which type of training you have selected.

2. General training

The type of general training can be picked by using the drop down in this area. The type of focus you select here will be seen as your ‘main team training’ and will then be your standard training during the season. But you will be able to change this manually for every week (see number 5).

3. Scheduling

In this section you will find a slider, which indicates how much time is spent by your team on team- or on match training. Sliding it from left to right will have you pick more team or more match training.

It also offers the option to allow rest before and / or after matches.

4. Match training

Here you have the option to adjust the type of match training you would like to use. The setting you pick here will be seen as the standard and will be used before every game. Off course you will be able to alter this manually for each and every week.

Best pick to change this manually is before every match. If you have given a scout the assignment to check your next opponent, he will be giving advice on the type of match training you should be picking. The level of your scout will determine the accuracy of his advice.

5. Planning ahead

The Calendar in FM (see number 1) shows a maximum of three weeks at a time. The week on top is the current week you are in, and the two weeks below are the coming two weeks. You can use this section to plan and adjust the team and / or match training. This way you can decide to adjust your team or match training for every single opponent.

For example: You can switch to defensive and defensive positioning when you play an away game at the league leaders or switch both to an attacking focus when you play at home against a team that is lower on the table.
