This guide will explain you how to fix fake club and competition names in Football Manager.
Football Manager uses a very big database containing al sorts of data, but is also a game that has to cope with restrictions because of licences. Lucky for us there is an easy way to add real club names, real competition names and real trophy names by applying a Real Name Fix.
If you have installed Football Manager straight out of the box, you will notice that some things don't add up:
- Some clubs have fake names (Zebre, FCP, SLB)
- Competition names are fake (EURO Cup)
- And some players have fake names.
Don't worry about a thing. These are easy to fix!
PRO TIP: If you use the FMInside Update, you won't have to fix the team and league names, as we include these in our Update. If you use our update, you will only have to follow step 1 of this guide.
Before we start:
Name changes on clubs aren't savegame compatible. You will need to start a fresh save to fix these.
Step 1: Remove .lnc Files
The first step in all of this removing the so called .lnc files.
These are located at:
Windows:
Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ football manager 20xx\ data \ db \ xx \ lnc \
Mac OS:
[username] > library > Application support > Steam > steamapps >common > football manager 2-xx> data > db > xx > lnc >
Delete all the files in this folder.
*XX are the versions
Every time SI release a new version of Football Manager or release a new database it will create a new version of the folders. So every time SI releases a new data-update (for example the well known winterupdate), you will have to delete the files again.
Step 2: Download a real name fix
Why download a real name fix if you are able to download one file that includes all the needed fixes! The FMI Update has corrected ALL the league and competition names in Football Manager, added media, journalists, player agents, wonderkids and the latest transfers! A must-have for every manager!
Step 3: Restart Football Manager
To make sure the download and replacing of the files worked correctly you will have to restart Football Manager. Once it has restarted you can load your existing game or start a new game. Then check if the competition names have been changed correctly (Champions Cup should be Champions League).
