This is the shortlist with the best defensive midfielders in Football Manager 2024. Updated for FM24.3.

The defensive midfielder is one of the most versatile positions in Football Manager 2024. He can be a shuttler and his only job is to prevent the opposition from attacking, but he can also be the first line of attack in a playmaking role. There are plenty of defensive and playmaking roles available for this position and your own tactical choices will be very important in determining what type of player you should be looking at.

Maybe this article will be helping you in the right direction! Here we have collected the best young defensive midfielders in Football Manager 2024. To create the list we have used our own Player Database. We also used some criteria to create the list and to help you in your search for the next best wonderkid, we have divided the list into three seperate categories:

  • World Class Defensive Midfielders
  • Good Defensive Midfielders
  • Decent Defensive Midfielders

The first category will show players who have the potential to be a true great player, developing into one of the best in the world. The Good Defensive midfielders will have the potential to keep their ground in a top league, but they will never be able to develop into a top tiered player. The last category has players with a lower dynamic potential, but these may vary from game to game. Chances are though that these dynamic potentials will not be high enough for the top ten clubs in the world, but will be enough to play some serious ball.

Important - The list we present is based on the positions a player could play in. It is therefore possible a player will pop-up on more than one list. There are several examples of full-backs who can play on both sides of the pitch.
