Relegation in football is one of the hardest things to accept by the fans. After a long and tough season, there are always a number of teams that just fail to live up to expectations for all kinds of reasons. For those teams the only thing left is relegation to a lower league and they will have to try again to win promotion to a higher division.

The 2020/21 season is coming to an end and clubs all over the world have already been relegated from their leagues. In this article you will find five clubs that all have been relegated to a lower league.

Clubs to save from relegation in FM

As a manager, you get the chance to save them from destruction in Football Manager.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United had a disappointing second season in the Premier League. After the team finished on a surprising ninth place in the 2019/2020 season, The Blades are looking to finish in last position this season. They have one of the smallest budgets in the league and offer a great challenge in FM21.

Parma

Just before the turn of the century, Parma was one of the better teams in Italy, winning the UEFA Cup, among other things. The club fell into financial troubles and they were even declared bankrupt in 2015 as they were sent back to the Serie D. The club emerged from the ashes and with three consecutive promotions they returned to the Serie A in 2018. Now, three seasons later, they failed to avoid the drop to the Serie B. Parma have a decent team in FM21, with former Arsenal forward Gervinho being their star player and young Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee playing for the on loan. Can you avoid the drop?

Schalke 04

For years, German club Schalke 04 were one of the challengers of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. The team played regularly in the Champions League and competed at the top of the league in almost every season. Since 2014 it has been slowly going downhill with the club as they fell down the table and eventually lost sight of European football and ultimately into the relegation zone. In 2021, the fear of the fans became reality and for the first time since 1991, Schalke will play in the second tier again. While Schalke failed to impress in real life, they have a good squad available to them in FM21. With this team you should be able to avoid the drop with fair ease.

Olympique Nimes

For Olympique Nimes, their three-year stay in Ligue 1 came to an end this season. After the club was promoted to the top football division in France for the first time since 1993, they failed to hold their own again and will continue to play next season. play in Ligue 2. In FM21 you will face a tough relegation battle in France as this team will require some building. A nice challenge for the final months of FM21?

ADO Den Haag

Dutch club ADO Den Haag ended a 13 year spell in the Eredivisie after they finished in 18th and last position this season. The city of The Hague is the third largest city in the country after Amsterdam and Rotterdam, but has failed to house a large and stable football club since the start of the Dutch league. ADO doesn't have the best squad in terms of qualities, but you should be able to avoid relegation in the Eredivisie without any problems. In FM21 they have a better team than several other clubs in the league, making it a fairly easy challenge to complete.
