How to add custom skins

Lazy Nov 9, 2020 Last modified: 24 Nov 23,127 views

This guide explains how you install a custom skin in Football Manager.

The Base Skin in Football Manager is a great and simple looking skin, but is rather limited in its options. Luckily the FM community offers a large amount of incredible custom Football Manager skins and those are all available to download.

You have custom football manager skins that offer:

  • Instant result button
  • Custom background images
  • Official score boards or custom score boards
  • Extra widgets and other graphical enhancements.

In this guide we will be explaining how you can download a custom skin and how to add it in Football Manager.

*Custom skins that are designed for new versions will NOT WORK in older versions, while older skins will not work for the newer versions.

Step by step guide

Step 1: Download a custom Football Manager skin

When you have found a custom football manager skin that you like, you can download it directly onto your computer.

You can download skins in our download area.

Step 2: Unpack the Skin

To limit the size of the download, skin creators often use a small piece of software to 'pack' their download. The software that is used the most is called WinRar (free to download).

After you have downloaded the skin, you need to unpack it before you can use it in Football Manager.

Step 3: Place the skin in the correct folder

After you downloaded the custom skin and unpacked the .rar file, you need to make sure to place or move the skin folder in the correct area for Football Manager to recognise it and then use it.

The folders are:

Windows: C:\Users\\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 20xx\skins\

Mac OS X: /Users//Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 20xx/skins/

*The xxxx marks the version you are using.

4. Activating the skin

Start Football Manager and after the start screen has loaded, navigate to: Preferences. Or if you are already in the game, find the preferences in the dropdown behind the 'FM' button in the top right.

In Preferences you will now see a set of default settings. Look for the Interface section and use the drop down to select the skin you would like to use.

Select the skin you want to use and press Confirm at the bottom of the screen. The game will now reload the skin.

If all steps are followed correctly, you will be seeing your version of Football Manager in a new fresh look!
