Sports Interactive have revealed that the Match Engine and look and feel of the matchday have been revamped in Football Manager 2024. Read more on the latest FM24 features.
In Football Manager 24 the focus is on enhancing the realism of matchdays. The game aims to replicate real-world football as closely as possible. Sports Interactive have therefore improved the matchday experience in FM24 and the following key improvements have been made.
Player Behavior
The game's engine has been improved to make player movements and rotations more realistic than ever. Players will now adapt their positions based on their roles and the movement of their teammates. This will result in better passing options and better movement during attacks.
Positional Play
FM24 will take a giant leap forward by adding the popular tactical principle of positional play. Here players will create passing triangles and diamonds to create space on the pitch to advance possession. This is achieved through improved player rotations, allowing for more fluid movement on the pitch.
New or changed Player Roles
FM24 introduces the 'Inverted Full-Back' role, which functions as a traditional full-back in defense but during possession he will move towards the centre. This will allow you to play with a 3-man defense when you are in possession of the ball, allowing you to create more flexible defensive formations.
Enhanced Role Behavior
Existing roles, such as Inverted Wingers and Inside Forwards, have been tweaked to accommodate additional midfield players pushing into the half space, helping create overloads. And the same goes for the Inverted Wing Backs and the Libero. This player role will now have the option to move into the midfield, potentially outnumbering your opponent on the midfield.
Improved Player Motion & Physics
Player animations and physics have been enhanced, making movements more intelligent and realistic, including off-the-ball actions like running and defending. The game will now use Motion Matching, a system will identify and use more realistic anumations for player movement, resulting in more smoother and natural animations. The physics for the ball have also been renewed with the aim to make it more accurate, considering factors like drag, air resistance, weather, and stadium conditions, resulting in more realistic ball movements.
Weather & Pitch conditions
The condition of the pitch or the type of weather will now affect players on the pitch more than ever. Players will have to adjust their dribbling on a damp pitch, but could also utilize a wet pitch by downard headers and volleys.
Enhanced Matchday Environment
Ligthing and pitch texturs have been given a massive upgrade compared to FM23. The difference between day and night has never looked better, while the improvements to interior lighting will provide better color grading based on weather and time of day. Pitch textures are sharper and more natural, creating a more authentic matchday experience.
