Football Manager 2019 lacked a -10 wonderkid after Kylian Mbappe was moved from a dynamic potential to a fixed potential in the FM19 database. Will Football Manager 2020 see a return of the elite wonderkid? We have made a list with five players that could be one of those.
Negative Potential Ability
The ability ladder in Football Manager has always been set at 0-200 for both current & potential ability. To make the game more diverse, the team at Sports Interactive introduced the negative Potential Ability range. This means players will not have a fixed potential, but one that will be different every new save you start. If you want to learn more about ability and potential, make sure to read our Guide on this subject.

Joao Felix – Atletico Madrid
You can’t look passed Joao Felix. This kid had an absolute storming debut season at Benfica, scoring 15 goals in 26 league games. Felix emerged as one of the hottest wonderkids on the summer transfer market, with Atletico Madrid paying a whopping €126M for his signature. In the Spanish capital Felix had no problems settling in, securing a spot in Diego Simeone’s first eleven and already scoring two goals in his first seven games. We have no doubt Joao Felix will be one of the biggest – if not THE biggest – wonderkids in Football Manager 2020. Will he be a -10? Either that or he will have a potential around 185 for sure.
Rodrygo – Real Madrid
Will Rodrygo be the next Neymar? Well, at least he has some similar traits as the Brazilian Paris Saint-Germain star: They both played for Santos, made their debut when they were 16 and are both left wingers. Real Madrid were keen on landing Rodrygo while he was still 16-years-old. The Spanish giants paid €45M for the young winger and after he turned 18 in 2019, Rodrygo’s signing was completed. Recently he made his debut for Real and instantly made an impact, scoring his first goal in the legendary white kit after just 93 seconds of play. He already was one of the big young stars in Football Manager 2019 and we are certain he will be a possible candidate for a -10 potential in Football Manager 2020.
Phil Foden – Manchester City
We have also added Phil Foden to the list. The young Manchester City midfielder is still only 19-years-old, but already has some Premier League and Champions League experience under his belt. City boss Pep Guardiola recently called Foden the ‘most talented player’ he has ever worked with and that says a lot from a boss who coached players like Lionel Messi and Arjen Robben. Foden had a fixed potential in Football Manager 2019 of 175, but we feel the 19-year-old might be returning to a dynamic potential for the FM20 season, making it even possible for him to be one of the -10 wonderkids in the game.
Vinicius Junior – Real Madrid
The path of Vinicius Junior is one that can be compared to his new teammate Rodrygo. He was bought by Real Madrid when he was 16-years-old and completed his move to the Spanish capital after he turned 18. Vinicius Junior joined Madrid last summer and had an impressive first run at the club, playing 31 games for the first team scoring seven goals and delivering thirteen assists. Just like his Brazilian companion Rodrygo, Vinicius was already one of the bigger wonderkids in Football Manager 2019. However, we are positive that his performances during last season could promote him from a -95 to a -10 wonderkid.
Ansu Fati – FC Barcelona
Ansu Fati did not make the Football Manager 2019 Database last year, but he will definitely be in FM2020. The young left winger joined FC Barcelona in 2016 and he has been making quite the impression in the Catalans well-known youth academy La Masia. This summer he was granted the chance to train with Barcelona’s first team and he managed to claim a spot in Ernesto Valverde’s first team. He then made his debut in Barcelona’s 5-2 victory over Real Betis and even opened his scoring account during Barca’s 2-2 draw with Osasuna. At the moment he has played five LaLiga games while he has also made his Champions League debut against Borussia Dortmund (0-0). Looking at his development, Ansu Fati must be one of the ones to watch in Football Manager 2020. I mean, playing regularly for FC Barcelona at the age of 16? Not many have done that in their careers… Possible candidate for a -10 rating? Definitely!
