Football Manager 2017 had its own share of new wonderkids and Football Manager 2018 will not be any different. In this article we will be looking ahead at the new game – which will be released on November 10th – and will point you in the direction of 5 possible new FM18 wonderkids.
*Note: We will not be adding any players that have been marked as a wonderkid in Football Manager 2017.
If Real Madrid paid 40M for a 16-year-old Brazilian striker, he must be extremely good don’t you think? Vinicius Junior made his first appearance in FM17, but he wasn’t considered to be a true wonderkid. Although he was a pretty decent young striker if you picked him up early, he wouldn’t be among the top 10 strikers in longer saves.
In FM18 that could all change! His multi million move and record transfer to Madrid could mean a drastic improvement for his potential ability. We have high hopes for this young Brazilian, and we are very excited to see how he will turn out in the game.
Second on the list is the 18-year-old French defender Dayot Upamecano. He made quite the impression last season at RB Leipzig, after joined from RB Salzburg for a 9M fee. Despite his age Upamecano adapted quite quickly to his new home in Germany. He made 13 appearances during the second half of the season and has been promoted as a starter for this season. He started in every single game RB Leipzig has played up until now and that shows his talent.
Upamecano was a -85 player in FM17 and we expect him to make a slight improvement towards -9. Could be a player that will be amongst the FM18 Wonderkids to have a look at.
The second central defender on the list and also the second Brazilian who is on here. The 17-year-old Vitor Eduardo (Vitao) is seen as one of the future greats in Brazilian football, with media tipping him as the new Thiago Silva. He is captain of the Brazil U17 team, which won the South American Championship in Chili earlier this year. Vitao captained the team in all games, beating Chili 5-0 in the final game of the tournament.
Vitao can be found in FM17, where he is considered to be a -7 player. We expect a promotion for the defender to at least -8 and maybe even -85 or higher. We have high expectations of this player, who is seen as one of the best players under the age of 18.
Number 4 on the list is 17-year-old Diego Lainez. The left winger joined his current club América at the age of 11 and made his professional debut earlier this year. With his debut he became the youngest player ever to feature in a competitive match for América. Since his debut he has played 11 games in the first team.
Lainez is in FM17, but is considered to be a -7 player only. Looking at his progress in 2017, we expect him to be there with the best FM18 wonderkids. Lainez could end up being that cheap gem for you team, just like his fellow countryman Hirving Lozano was in FM15.
We close the list with Perr Schuurs. The 17-year-old central defender plays for the Dutch first division club Fortuna Sittard and has been tipped as a future star. Schuurs, who can be compared to Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax, was even named the Fortuna captain for the 2017/2018 season. This made him the youngest club captain ever. A lot is expected from the youngster, who has already attracted the interest from Ajax, PSV and many other European clubs.
Looking at FM17, Schuurs has a -65 potential. Seeing his development in the past season and the fact he is the youngest club captain in the Dutch league makes us wonder what his potential could be in FM18. We expect a massive improvement for the lad, possibly into a -8 or even -85 wonderkid.
