Phil Foden

Phil Foden is one hell of a wonderkid at Manchester City. Despite being 18-years-old, Pep Guardiola has given the central midfielder quite some game time at the Premier League champions. We checked him out in Football Manager 2019 to see how he develops and if he is available for a transfer.

Transfer Information

Phil Foden is available at the start of the game, but he will only be available for clubs with a transfer budget above 100M. The midfielder is considered a hot prospect and has a long-term contract, City will demand a fee around 96M. It seems only Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have the funds to sign Foden in the first window.

If you have patience, you will be able to sign Foden on a much lower fee. The 18-year-old will have difficulties breaking into the first team at City and will spend some time away on loan. If he does not succeed in the first team, he will leave the club before the end of his contract in 2022.

Phil Foden – 2018

Foden starts in the U23 at Man City. He will be given some game time in the first team, but not as much as you would expect. Chances are Guardiola will send him out on loan at another Premier League club or one of the big teams in the Championship.

Phil Foden – 2028

Looking at his development over 10 seasons in FM19 we have to conclude that he suffers from the same problems as many other wonderkids at the ‘big teams’. He failed to reach his maximum potential due to the fact he has not been given enough playing time. He would stay at Man City until the summer of 2026 and only managed to become a first team regular in his final season. In all his other seasons Foden spent more time off the pitch than on it.

After he rejected to sign a new contract at Man City, he moved to Spanish side Villarreal. Looking at the club name you would think he has made a big step down. However, the Yellow Submarine have been an impressive side in the past few years in Spain and Europe.
