Part 6 - Meet my new club

Welcome to Valdres. That is what my new chairman Ove Rabben said after I signed my contract and accepted the role as Manager. I have moved from the Czech Republic to Norway and did't have much time to get settled in. The season in Norway is about to start and I have to get in right away. In this Blog Update you will learn everything about my new club Valdres.

Club Bio

Valdres FK was originally founded in 2002 as a merger between Sor-Aurdal FK and Fagernes IL. It was originally known as SAFK Fagernes, until 2006, when the club changed it names to Valdres Fotballklubb. The club spent quite some years in the Norwegian Second Division, but in 2014 the club relegated to the 3. Divisjon. Today the club still plays in the 3.Divisjon and has been struggling ever since. In 2015 the club finished in 14th and last place in the division.

The season is less than a month away, so as the manager I do not have a lot of time to change much in the current squad. And maybe that is a good thing. I wont be doing much transfers and will try and work with the group of players I got when I signed at the club. A fun fact; Valdres has two English players in the squad: Aidan Hawtin as Sam Humphreys, who both joined Valdres from Oxford United.

report.pngIf we look over at the team report on the right, we see the numbers of players we have for every position on the field. This shows exactly where we have to focus on during the next few weeks / months when the Norwegian Transfer Window is still opened.

For me, an ideal squad has around 23 players and I have two players for every position I use on the field. So, as I am a 4-3-3 or a 3-5-2 kind of guy, I could use a new left Full Back. Right now we currently have one player that can play in this position, and that is not enough.

Second Position I am looking for is the Defensive Midfielder. Only 36-year-old Anders Ellingseter is able to play in this position. Not only do I think he is way too old, he also lacks the skill for the role I have in mind; Anchor Man.

Third position I would like to look for is a right Full Back. Although we have three possible players, none of them is able to feature as a Wingback. And as I love a 3-5-2 with attacking Wingbacks, I definitely want one in my squad.

Well, on the positive side; Valdres has a positive bank balance of around 50k. That is always a good thing. But, as we see in the graph, the balance is declining. Last month there was a loss of 14k, which means the positive numbers will be gone in 3 to 4 months time if this continues. Lets hope the numbers will go up again when the season in Norway starts.

Valdres finished in 14th and last position last season in the 3. Divisjon and my new board has some expectations set for me. They expect us to finish in a safe mid-table position. For me that is a do-able goal for the season. Every position from 5th to 10th would be considered to be a good one. I can work with that.

In the Cup they expect us to reach the Preliminary Final. We are already in the Semis, so surviving one round is our goal. To reach the preliminary finals, we will have to beat Svelvik, another 3. Divisjon club, which plays in Subdivision 4 (we play in 3). The media expects us to get the win.

To Close

Well this was my first official Valdres Blog, I hope you liked it. Next time I will discuss my first month in charge of Valdres. To talk you guys through the seasons, I will post an update every month. That way I can keep updating my story regularly instead of one update every week. A few months back my girl gave birth to a wonderful son (Siem) and he takes up a lot of time... As you can imagine my playtime for Football Manager is very low these days... Therefore I have chosen to make some 'smaller' Blog Updates so I can keep posting on a regular basis! Thanks for reading my Blog and thanks for those giving me a comment below! Your feedback is appreciated!

My next update will be posted before the end of the week!
