Part 16 - Future

After an exciting season, Roger Speed will look back on the past season trying to reflect his and Valdres FK's performances. The young English manager will also reveil his future plans. Will he stay in Norway and try to improve this years 3rd place finish, or will he terminate his contract hoping to find a new adventure elsewhere on the planet? Enjoy the read!

Looking back at our season we cannot feel anything other than happiness. The team performed amazingly well and I would have never expected us to finish in third place, picking up a well deserved spot in the promotion playoffs. Obviously we are gutted to have lost the semi final on penalties, but we can be very proud of our performances.

A couple of days after our loss in the Promotion Playoffs the team had its yearly closing ceremony. In company of their partners and the board, Dan Monell was chosen as the Fans Player of the Year. The Forward scored 15 goals in 22 games this season and was very important for us. Erlend Saebu finished second, with Vebjorn Sangnaes finishing in third place.

Looking at the clubs Season review (cool new feature in FM17), we can conclude nothing else than we did before; we had a great season. Game of the season was the win against Lillestrom, which helped us in second place for a moment. A moment to forget was a 1-3 loss at home at the hands of Fu/Vo.

I am not surprised the board are delighted with the performances of the team last season. But I am not that fond of the criticism about Patrick Solvang. He has one of the lowest contracts in the squad and I managed to get rid of all his demands for certain bonuses. He cost us a total € 800 for the season, which is about half of some of the other players that did not play as much as he did. Weird!

To end the Update I will reveil my future. Somewhere in november, the club has opened contract renewal talks with me. For me I had one important demand and that was an increase in the player and backroom staff wage budgets. If the club wants me to stay, I must be able to invest in the team and the backroom. At first they accepted my demands and offered me a decent one year contract extension. I accepted the offer and my future was set, I would stay at Valdres and try to improve the performances next season.

After the season review the Board showed me the Initial budgets for next season. What did they sent me? They lowered the budget with 50%! What the..... Damn board members can never be trusted! With the knowledge that the contracts of 12 players would expire and the knowledge that signing replacements would be next to impossible, I made a radical decision; I RESIGN FROM VALDRES!!

So, what will happen next? Read all about it in my next Blog Update!
