Welcome back to the FM Premier League! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and now that the break is over, let’s get back into some FM! This week, I was up against FMMariner’s Everton, and I was in need of a win!
This week, I decided to stick with the direct counter-attack, as I felt Everton would pick us apart if we our defence was open. The wing-backs were switched from a support duty to an automatic duty, as I wanted to be more solid at the back.
I made 2 changes to the team that lost to Watford last time out. Maxime Le Marchand replaced Calum Chambers and Cyrus Christie replaced Timothy Fosu-Mensah for his first appearance for me in the FM Premier League.
Everton vs Fulham
The game started off pretty evenly, with both teams getting good chances. The first goal was scored in the 35th minute, and yet again, I was losing. Yerry Mina scored to put Everton in front, and we could do nothing to combat it.
Everton had their second goal before half time through Sandro, in what was quite a ridiculous goal. Sandro was put through 1 on 1 with Sergio Rico, who made a pretty good save, but parried it straight back to the Spanish striker, who had a shot blocked by Le Marchand, but the ball seemed to deflect back off Sandro, and into the net. Not a good way to concede!
I decided to make some tactical changes at half-time. i switched back to the vertical tiki-taka, with the wingers getting an attack duty. I needed to have a go at this Everton side if we were to get anything from the game.
In the second half, things were definitely improved. My side were threatening the opposition much more, and Alexsandar Mitrovic missed quite a clear-cut chance that would have put my side within touching distance of the opposition.
Minutes later, however, Everton had a third. After a corner was poorly cleared by Cyrus Christie, Yerry Mina was allowed to score his second goal of the game.
I was really disappointed with my side’s performance this week, especially the defence. Cyrus Christie was pretty awful and failed to earn himself a place in the team. We created some chances going forward, and with some better finishing from Mitrovic, we might have been in with a shout of getting a draw.
Unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be this week. Everton were simply more clinical than us. We will have to improve and we must get back to winning ways A.S.A.P.
Next Opponent: Oldham (SuperStockers)
My next match will be against Oldham managed by SuperStockers, in what will be the first game of the FM FA Cup! This game will be a chance to try out new players and hopefully we can get through to the next round. We are starting to make a bad habit of losing and we have to get back on track, and I believe we will.
