Welcome to back to the FM Premier League! Last time out, we had an embarrassing 8-1 loss to Manchester City. This week, I was facing league creator FMStructured’s Watford. It was safe to say I was looking for better performances this week!
This week, I made 2 lineup changes to the side that faced Manchester City last week. Ryan Sessegnon replaced Andre Schurrle at left wing, and Stefan Johansen came in to the midfield, with Tom Cairney dropping to the bench.
I decided to try out a completely new tactical style this week. Rather than playing the vertical tiki-taka that I have been using recently, I played a direct counter-attacking style. I felt that our attacking style last week was leaving our defence too open, so I needed to be more solid back there. The direct style would get the best out of Mitrovic up top, and would make him the focal point of our attack.
Fulham vs Watford
It’s fair to say that this week’s game was a little less eventful than last week. We threatened Watford’s defence a few times in the first half, and our defence was much more solid than last week. Mitrovic had a few chances on goal, including one that seemed easier to score than to miss, but it was deservedly level at the break.
In the second half, my opponent decided to make changes. Bringing on FM Wonderkid Adalberto Penaranda seemed to make the difference. On 80 minutes, Watford got a free-kick on the edge of our box. Gerard Deulofeu crossed the ball in excellently for Andre Gray to put in. We were 1-0 down.
After the goal went in, I decided to go for it. Andre Schurrle and Neeskens Kebano were brought on, and we went very attacking. Unfortuantely, the changes had little impact and we just couldn’t get that equalising goal. It finished 1-0 to Watford.
This week’s performance was certainly much better than last week’s. Our dfence was much more solid, and we were unlucky in the attacking department. I’m disappointed to not at least pick up a point, but I’m not disheartened. I’m confident that we can back to winning ways soon, and hopefully we will.
Next Opponent: Everton (FMMariner)
Next week is a Christmas break for the league, so this could be my last game of 2018. My next opponent is set to be Everton, managed by FMMariner. I’ll go an practice and try new tactics over the Christmas break, an hopefully I can find the winning formula. I hope you enjoy your Christmas, see you in 2019!
