Welcome back to the FM Premier League! After another disappointing loss to Southampton last time out, my Fulham side had an even tougher task, beating FMJourneyman’s Chelsea!
This week, we made another tactical change in an effort to make something happen. Due to the quality of our opposition, we went with a direct counter-attacking style of play. The 4-3-3 formation made a return with a few role changes, namely Zambo Anguissa switching to an Anchor in the midfield.
There was also 4 lineup changes to the side. In defence, Cyrus Christie and Havard Nordtveit dropped out, with Alfie Mawson and Maxime Le Marchand coming in. In attack, Luciano Vietto and Andre Schurrle came in on either wing, with Ryan Babel and Lazar Markovic dropping out.
Chelsea vs Fulham
The first half for Fulham was very encouraging. We managed to keep Chelsea out, and created a few decent chances at the other end. It was 0-0 at the break.
Chelsea took control in the 2nd half, however. After Andre Schurrle gifted Chelsea a penalty, Eden Hazard tucked away and we were 1-0 down. We created a few more chances after that, but after Calum Chambers and Sergio Rico had a lapse in communication, Eden Hazard scored his and Chelsea’s 2nd, sealing the game for them
This week’s performance was a lot better than last week’s, but we really are crying out for a win. We were never really expected to win this, but we still made it all too easy for Chelsea. It seems like, no matter what I try, our defence is simply too weak to keep any attack out. As we’ve seen in real life, this Fulham team is just ill-prepared for the Premier League and we seem destined to go down at the moment.
Next Opponent: Leicester City (FMLobster)
Our next opponent is a slightly more winnable game. We will face Leicester City, managed by FMLobser. Leicester find themselves down at the bottom of the table along with us, which makes this a crucial game in our survival attempt. At some point, something I try has to work, and hopefully it will click next week!
