Welcome back to the FM Premier League! Last week, we faced Nottingham Forest in what was eventful FA Cup 4th round tie. This week, we were up against CookieFM’s Bournemouth, and we needed to end this losing streak!
This week, we went with a completely new tactic. We switched to a 4-2-3-1, and also switched from the vertical tiki-taka style to the gegenpress style. We needed to be more assured at the back, and I felt this tactic would allow us to be.
In terms of lineup changes, there was 3 in total. With both wing-backs, Ryan Sessegnon and Timothy Fosu-Mensah suspended, Joe Bryan and Cyrus Christie started on either side. Meanwhile, Alexsandar Mitrovic returned to the team, with Floyd Ayite dropping out.
Fulham vs Bournemouth
The first half was very encouraging from a Fulham point of view. We were creating chances, and keeping Bournemouth out for the most part. Although we hadn’t managed to get a goal, I was happy with my sides first half performance.
The second half was much more like the usual Fulham, unfortunately. We started off well, but we seemed to tire after so much pressing, and allowed Bournemouth into the match. After a few Bournemouth chances were missed, Dominic Solanke opened the scoring after 68 minutes. We were losing once again.
Our luck only got worse, as Joe Bryan took down a Bournemouth player inside the box and the ref awarded them a penalty. Charlie Daniels stepped up, and scored.
At 2-0, we had nothing to lose, I went all out. With us throwing everything forward, we were putting serious pressure on the Bournemouth defence. The pressure payed off, when Cyrus Christie scored a superb goal to give us a slimmer of hope. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get that equalising goal, and the game finished 2-1.
Our performance this week was certainly much better than it has been in recent weeks. Our attack let us down this week, with Alexsandar Mitrovic, Andre Schurrle and Luciano Vietto failing to provide much going forward. We probably deserved at least a point this week, and Bournemouth could maybe consider themselves lucky to have gotten away with all 3.
Next Opponent: Huddersfield (BadJokesGaming)
Our next opponent is Huddersfield, managed by BadJokesGaming. While this might seem like a relatively easier game, Huddesrfield have been performing heroics so far in the FM Premier League, so this will not be an easy task. Still, we tried a new tactic this week and I saw a lot of positives in this game. We go again next week.
