FM Premier League – Matchweek 1

Welcome to Matchweek 1 of the FM Premier League! My first fixture was a very tough one. My Fulham side would face Fryman7’s Crystal Palace. Fryman is the FM World Champion, so I was expecting a very tight game!

For my first game with Fulham, I decided to go with a 4-3-3 with Zambo Anguissa as a DM. I used the vertical tiki-taka style and made some adjustments to the instructions. I feel this tactic will try to get the best out of Alexsandar Mitrovic up top, making him the focal point of our attack. I went with an attacking mentality as I felt that we could easily get at Crystal Palace, and by playing attacking football we would create as much chances as possible.

As you can see by the picture above, I didn’t have great attacking options on the bench, with Floyd Ayite and Neeskens Kebano being my only attacking subs. I therefore had to rely on my front three of Andre Schurrle, Alexsandar Mitrovic and Luciano Vietto to get the job done

Fulham vs Crystal Palace

After a pretty dull first half, my opponent made a change that would ultimately win the game for him. Bringing on Jordan Ayew at half time changed the game completely, as the Ghanaian scored just minutes into the second half.

After Alfie Mawson’s disastrous back pass, Marcus Bettinelli in goal could do nothing but head the ball away from goal, straight into Ayew’s path, who had a simple finish. What was Mawson doing?!

I was pretty disappointed with a few of my player’s performances. Alexsandar Mitrovic failed to do much at striker, whilst FM wonderkid Ryan Sessgnon didn’t impress at left back. Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Luciano Vietto were probably my 2 best players, and substitute Floyd Ayite looked decent in his short outing.

Overall, I was disappointed with my team’s performance, although I’m not disheartened. My opponent was very good and it was very tight game. Interestingly, we decided to play a second leg just for fun, which I won 2-1(Just my luck). I think on another day I could’ve won, but fair play to Fryman, he came out deserved winner in the end. Good luck to him in the rest of the competition!

Next Opponent: Spurs (Bigdadyham)

My next opponent is Bigdadyham’s Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have a much better team than Fulham on paper, but I’m confident on getting a result and improving on this week’s performance. Let’s go Fulham!
