FM FA Cup – Round 2

Welcome back to the FM FA Cup! This week, in the second round of fixtures, we were up against MozzaPlays’ Nottingham Forest, who beat Chelsea 3-0 in the first round! This was not going to be an easy task!

Check out Round 1!

Tactics

This week, I made just one change to the side, although it was a major one. Top scorer Alexsandar Mitrovic was dropped to the bench for the first time this season, with Floyd Ayite starting at right wing, and Luciano Vietto starting up top.

Nottingham Forest vs Fulham

The game started off rather tame. We were dominating in terms of possession, but weren’t doing anything with it. That was until Jean Michel Seri scored a 40 yard stunner to open the scoring and make it 1-0 to Fulham!

Our lead did not last long however, as Ben Osborn replied with a stunner of his own, making things level at the break

The second half was very tight, with both sides getting chances, but neither was able to convert, we were set for a replay

Fulham vs Nottingham Forest – Replay

The first half of the replay began excellently for us, with Luciano Vietto scoring after 8 minutes. It would soon get much worse for us, as Timothy Fosu-Mensah was given a straight red after an awful tackle from behind. Ryan Sessegnon added to our troubles, getting sent off 10 minutes later, leaving us with 9 men and a whole half of football still left to play.

We managed to hold onto our lead for almost the whole game, until Hilal Soudani finally equalised for Nottingham Forest with just 5 minutes to go. Extra-Time it is.

Unfortunately, the game crashed as Guedioura was sent off for Forest, it simply couldn’t handle all those sending offs!

We then decided to go to golden goal, where after a 0-0 in the first game, we had to play for the FOURTH time, where someone finally won. But, unfortunately, it was Nottingham Forest who got the goal. We were knocked out of the FM FA Cup.

Match Reaction

Well, after 4 attempts, there was finally a winner in this extremely tight game. We lost to a very well-managed team, who have already knocked out one of the Premier League teams. We were always going to be on the back-foot with just 9 players on the pitch. It’s disappointing to be knocked out of the FM FA Cup. We go again in the league next week.

Next Opponent: Bournemouth (CookieFM)

Our next game is back in the Premier League against Bournemouth, managed by CookieFM. This Fulham team is clearly not working at the moment, and big changes will need to be made if we are to get out of this relegation battle. Hopefully, this week might finally the the week where we get back to winning ways!
