Young centre-back Dayot Upamecano was picked by RB Leipzig while he was in the youth set-up at French side Valenciennes. He is considered as one of the most talented defenders in Football Manager 2019. We simulated the game and see how well he develops!
We tried to sign Dayot Upamecano during the first transfer window and RB Leipzig was eager to tell us the French defender has a minimal fee clause in his contract worth 90M. After some negotiating, we eventually reached an agreement for 55M and a 30% of the profit from a possible next sale.
Upamecano’s first position is centre-back. He is also capable to play as a Defensive midfielder or Midfielder Centre, but we suggest you only play him there during a massive injury crisis or many suspensions.
Role: Ball Playing Defender
His best role would be as a Ball Playing Defender. He shows some good quality to really play well in this role. However, if you don’t want to play with a technical centre-back, you could always ask him to play as a normal centre-back or even a No-Nonsense Centre-back.
At the end of the day Upamecano is a good ball playing defender, but we would actually suggest you play him as a ‘normal’ centre-back. While his passing and technique are on a good level, there are better ball playing defenders to find for a lower fee like Matthijs de Ligt.
