7 Dutch wonderkids to sign
Despite being one of the smaller countries in the world, Holland has always had their fair share of Football greats. Johan Cruijff is considered by many to be one the greatest players the world has ever seen, while names like Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, Dennis Bergkamp and Arjen Robben show up in many ‘greatest footballers of all time’ lists. Holland is a country that breathes football and it’s a country that has a special love for young talent. How is this represented in Football Manager 2018? We take a look at 7 Dutch wonderkids!
MANCHESTER UNITED – EXP COST: 15M
First up the list is Tahith Chong. He is a speedy winger, but can also play as an attacking midfielder, secondary striker or even a loan striker. He is on a long term full time contract at Manchester United, which makes it quite difficult to sign him during the first summer. Be patient though, as United will not be using him a lot in the first few seasons. He will probably be available for a reasonable fee at one point. If you manage a League One team, Chong could be a valuable winger on loan.
CHELSEA – EXP COST: 100M
Are we serious? Yes, we wanted to see what level of fee Chelsea would accept for the Dutch wide player. We were shocked to see the Blues weren’t prepared to agree bids from 20, 30, 40 or even 70M in the first window. They kept on demanding 100M. Is he worth it? Hell no, he ain’t no Mbappe. Is he talented? Yes. Will he be world class? Probably not. But he is a useful player when you are a little further in the game and on a tight budget. Castillo, who can play on all positions on the left side, has moved away from Chelsea in every save we simulated, with fees that vary between 250k to 1.5M or even a free transfer.
AZ ALKMAAR – EXP COST: 10M
One of the biggest Dutch wonderkids we found in the database is Calvin Stengs. The young attacking midfielder / winger plays for AZ and has a long-term contract until 2022. Despite that, the Dutch side is willing to let him go for 10M. His profile show some good skills for an 18-year-old and he has the potential to be good player in one of the top divisions in Football Manager. Is he good enough to be the next Arjen Robben? Tough to say, but he has some quality potential if you are lucky. Big con for Stengs is a long-term injury. He will be out for 12-13 months, which makes him unavailable for a transfer.
AJAX – EXP COST: 4M
19-year-old Carel Eiting is one of the bigger Dutch wonderkids in the Ajax youth academy. The central or defensive midfielder is a real playmaker and has a big future ahead of him in Football Manager 2018. His natural position is DM, but don’t expect him to be that physical force that wins balls. Eiting is a deeplying playmaker or regista that loves to have the ball and make passes.
ANOUAR EL MHASSANI
WEST HAM UNITED – EXP COST: 100M
English clubs are mental in Football Manager 2018. We weren’t able to agree a fee with West Ham for the 16-year-old winger, and the Hammers kept on demanding 100M. Crazy off course, so target El Mhassani as a player for the future. West Ham will probably not use him much in the first few seasons, which will lower their demands. He has the potential to be a future international player for the Dutch national team, so make sure to keep tracking him during your save, chances are he will be available for a good fee after some seasons.
SC HEERENVEEN – EXP COST: 900k
16-year-old Kik Pierie is probably the most talented defender from Holland, next to Matthijs de Ligt and Perr Schuurs. The left-footed central defender shows some good skills, despite being very young. He is good enough to feature in the Dutch Eredivisie in the first season and has the potential to develop into quite the player. With an expected fee of 900k, Pierie is a very interesting target during the first summer window. Sign him up early, train him, send him on loan and by the time he hits 20, he will be a solid defender in one of the top leagues in Football Manager 2018.
AZ ALKMAAR – EXP COST: 825k compensation
Young striker Myron Boadu is the only player on this list that is still on a youth contract, which makes him the easiest target to acquire. He is willing to leave and has low wage demands. He is a speedy striker, ideal for a counter-minded tactic. Despite being 16-years-old, some essential attributes are already 10+. Boadu is a striker that you can sign for any Premier League team. Train him properly, make sure to nurture him, tutor him and learn him some needed player traits and you will be getting a good striker eventually.
