3-2-5-0 Chimera by Guido Merry

Community tactic number 3 and this time it is one of the most appreciated members of the Football Manager community; Guido Merry aka Mr Strikerless with his 3-2-5-0 Chimera tactic for Football Manager 2018.

For those of you who don’t know who Guido is (which we can’t imagine): he is a Dutch secondary school teacher from Limburg who has been hosting his own blog at strikerless.com since 2013. He is considered as one of the tactical masterminds inside the FM community and he has created so many amazing tactics, that we are thrilled that he agreed to create one for us.

Guido is one of (or maybe even THE) the founders of the well-known strikerless tactics that many Football Manager fanatics have been using in their saves for quite some years now. His tactical ideas worked even that good, that Sports Interactive decided to add some strikerless tactics to the standard tactics-list in Football Manager.

You can read Guido’s blog at strikerless.com or you can follow him on Twitter.

3-2-5-0 CHIMERA

The original chimera hailed from Greek mythology; it was a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of more than one animal. These days, the term chimera has come to describe any mythical or fictional animal with parts taken from various animals, or to describe anything composed of very disparate parts, or perceived as wildly imaginative, implausible, or dazzling. My own chimera is a tactic created by taking the best aspects of a number of community tactics and mixing those up with my own insights.

The defensive setup and a part of the midfield settings have been heavily influenced by my own Wolfpack tactic and the 3-2-2-3-0 formation that was hugely popular during the heydays of FM17. I have removed one of the three attacking midfielders and replaced this position with an additional central midfielder on a very offensive duty, to gain some extra defensive stability.

Instruction-wise, a lot of these instructions should look familiar, as they are pretty much similar to what I usually use. Relentless pressing all over the place, quick vertical passes towards the forwards, who look to take on their opponents and get inside the penalty area, a fairly narrow formation to strengthen the defensive aspect of the formation, all in all, the usual ingredients you have come to expect from a strikerless tactic.
