Are you excited about the release of Football Manager 2018? Well we are! One of the things we like to do before the release is look ahead and plan some new saves we would like to do during the new FM season. Of course you will be looking for a save with your favorite club, but there is also plenty of time to take up on a special challenge with a club outside of your comfort zone. For those of you that would like some inspiration, we have created a list with the 10 clubs – in a random order – we want to manage in Football Manager 2018.

Do you have any suggestions yourself? Please leave a comment and tell us which club you will be definitely be managing in FM18!

You have to appreciate a nice challenge in the Premier League. Brighton & Hove Albion are set to make their Premier League debut in the 2017/2018 season. Yes, they have played on the highest level in the past, but in that periode the league was called the First Divison. After the start of the Premier League in 1992, Brighton have been playing in the lower divisions.

This club could prove to be a fun challenge, as we expect that either Brighton or Huddersfield town are tipped to be the biggest relegation battlers in FM18. Are you the one to keep them up and get them fighting for a spot in Europe?

We don’t think we need to explain a reason for this right? Milan has bought a completely new squad during the 2017 summer window and has acquired players like Leonardo Bonucci, Franck Kessie, Hakan Calhanoglu, Matteo Mussachio, André Silva and many more. The Italian super power are set to return to the elite of European club football and you could be leading them to glory in Football Manager 2018. Milan will definitely be one the most played clubs in this years edition of the game.

Hamburger SV is the only German club that has never been relegated from the Bundesliga. HSV is the only club to have played in the top flight since the First World War. But in recent years the club has come very close to its first relegation. They have been battling bravely for a few seasons in a row, winning play-offs or just finishing in a safe spot. In FM18 it will be your task to bring them back into the top of German football. You have an amazing stadium, great facilities and a decent young squad to start with. HSV is definitely on our list!

Number four on the list is Spanish club Racing Santander. The club has experienced some major financial problems in recent years and that has made club fall down the football ladder. They relegated from La Liga in 2013 and are currently playing in the Segunda Divison B, the third level. Santander could prove to be a fun challenge. The club has a big stadium (22.222), which could help you on your way back to La Liga. Santander is a club with a long history in Spanish football and it would be a shame if they would stay at the bottom of the ladder.

The club was originaly founded in 1990, but was rebranded in 2014. In that season the club changed it name to Istanbul Basaksehir after they promoted to the highest Turkish league. The club has never won a major trophy and that makes this club a fun challenge in FM18. Basaksehir is considered a rich club, has a brand new stadium to play in and with the likes of Gael Clichy, Emanuel Adebayor and Eljero Elia you have some good quality available in your squad.

Now I hear you say; why is Billericay on this list. What makes them special? This club isn’t playable in the standard database, but will obviously be added through a custom database in FM18. If this is available, you should definitely play a save with the English Non-League club. Why? The club is owned  by Glenn Tamplin, a very rich entrepreneur in England. He bought the club in december 2016 and has even made himself manager.

That is not it! He signed former Premier League players Paul Konchesky, Jamie O’Hara and Jermaine Pennant and has the desire to sign on even more ‘big names’. With this in mind, Billericay could be an amazing Lower League save in Football Manager 2018. Can you get them up to the Premier League?

Parma is one of those clubs that was used a lot during Football Manager 2017. After the club was set back towards the Serie D in 2015, the club has now returned to the Serie B for the 2017/2018 season. With a major club history in Italian football, several European trophies and some impressive former players; Parma Calcio should definitely be one of the clubs you should be managing at least once in Football Manager 2018. Have them promoted towards the Serie A and then try to get them back in the top 5 before you will fight Juventus and AC Milan for the glory of Italy.

Talk about fairytales! Girona FC is one this list as one of those clubs that has experienced an ultimate high during last season. The club was founded in 1930, but has never played in the highest division of its nation. Spending over 20 seasons in the Segunda Division, Girona FC had its first promotion to the La Liga in the 2016/2017 season. Last season they bagged 72 points from 42 games, earning an automated promotion to the La Liga. In Football Manager 2018 you will be asked to fight bravely against relegation, but maybe you will be able to fight the big guns and finish on reasonable position. Girona’s trophy cabinet is empty and waiting to be filled. Will you take the challenge?

Another fairy tale story in Football. SPAL was originally founded in the early 1900’s and played several seasons in the Serie A. After the club got relegated, financial troubles made the club go bankrupt in 2005. They were set back towards the lowest levels in Italian football. Seven years later the club filed for a second bankruptcy and was replaced in the Serie D. In 2013 the club merged the club merged with Giacomense and moved onwards as S.P.A.L 2013. In their debut season they bagged promotion to the Serie C. After finishing 4th in the 2014/2015 season, SPAL then bagged 3 promotions in a row, completing their dream during the 2016/2017 season by wininng the title in the Serie B. For the first time in 49 years SPAL has returned in the Serie A.

When you are thinking about a save in Scotland, you might think about a save with Celtic and challenge for a European trophy. Or a save with Rangers and try to rebuild them. But, we feel there is a more challenging save available in Scotland: Aberdeen. They have profited from Ranger’s absence in the Premiership, finishing in second in the three last campaigns. It will be an interesting save to see if you can fight on both ends. Will you be able to fight off Rangers and challenge Celtic for the championship? It will be a difficult task to complete, but when you finaly do win, it will be one of the greatest achievements in FM18.
